Bezos Scholars Program Announces 2012 Scholars - Includes 5 Students from African Leadership Academy

The Bezos Scholars Program @ the Aspen Institute have announced their selection for the 2012 Bezos Scholars. This prestigious all-expense-paid scholarship brings together 12 of the US top public high school juniors and 12 exceptional educators for a week of exploration, dialogue and debate at the acclaimed Aspen Ideas Festival between June 26 and July 2, 2012. Also, the Bezos Scholars Program will include five outstanding students and an educator from the African Leadership Academy in South Africa. Team of Three to Be Named Winner at IBM-Sponsored International College Programming Contest

The next generation of elite computer engineers will meet in Warsaw, Poland, May 14 through May 17 to compete in the 36th Annual World Finals of the IBM-sponsored (NYSE: IBM) International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). The contest, which is affectionately known as the Battle of the Brains, will be hosted by the University of Warsaw and will challenge students to solve some of the most difficult programming problems in a strict five hour deadline. Of the 112 teams who will compete in the contest, only one will emerge as the winner and claim "The World's Smartest Trophy."

Huawei Appoints a New CEO for the Kenya Office

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced the appointment of Mr. Wind Li as the new Chief Executive Officer for its Kenya representative office. Mr. Li takes over from Herman He, who served as CEO for over five years. Prior to his new appointment, Mr. Li served as the company’s Regional Director of Sales. He has over 10 years experience in the telecom industry, and previously worked as the MD of Huawei in Zambia, and earlier as an account manager with Huawei in Madagascar. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science and Applications from Xian University of Technology.

AfDB’s 2012 Annual Meetings takes theme of Africa’s role in emerging global landscape

The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) (http://www.afdb.org) will hold its Annual Meetings this year in Arusha, Tanzania, from 28 May to 1 June. The theme of the 2012 meetings will be ‘Africa and the emerging global landscape: challenges and opportunities’. As always, the meetings will be a gathering of numerous high-level participants from the AfDB’s member countries.
