Vital Voices Global Partnership and Women in Management, Business, and Public Service (WIMBIZ) today announced the hosting of the Supporting Public Advocacy for Regional Competitiveness (SPARC) Program and Forum in Lagos, Nigeria. Apple's Tim Cook Defends Tax Claim

The technology giant Apple has been defending itself against accusations that it's avoided paying tax on tens of billions of dollars in profits. Chief executive Tim Cook told a US Senate committee Apple paid all the taxes it owed, complying with both the law, and the spirit of the law. He said last year it paid $6bn to the US Treasury, a tax rate of about 30%.

A new study by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the European Patent Office (EPO)—Patents and Clean Energy Technologies in Africa—to be launched on Monday finds that Africa has a huge untapped potential for generating clean energy, but that the slow pace of technology transfer is preventing this from being fully exploited.

Psychosocial Course Aims to Heal Scars Caused by Libyan Conflict

IOM, in partnership with Tripoli University, has completed a six-month course for 31 Libyan health, educational and social experts on how to cope with psychological reactions in the aftermath of 2011 Libyan conflict.The “Psychosocial Responses in War-Torn Societies” programme was designed to increase knowledge and awareness of psychosocial approaches in addressing psychological and social impacts of collective violence.

Barbara Ackonor Receives Chevening/Mansion House Scholarship

Ms. Barbara Ackonor has been announced as the 2013/14 Chevening-Mansion House Scholar. She will receive a scholarship worth £23,000 which is jointly funded by Chevening (£15,400) and Mansion House (£7,500) to study an MSc in Finance at Durham University. Mansion House Scholarships are awarded by the Lord Mayor of the City of London in some of the countries he visits each year, in his primary role of promoting the UK Financial Services Sector and the City of London in particular.

Life for the Living Medical and Humanitarian Centre (LILIMED), has organised a post-surgery appraisal clinic at Godokpe near Ho for 49 cured lepers.Cured lepers have been beneficiaries of free eye surgeries under the auspices of the centre's within the past two years.
